Man dies, others rushed to hospital following crash near Jerome

The following is a news release from Idaho State Police.

JEROME — Idaho State Police is investigating a two-vehicle fatality crash that occurred on Sunday at 8:29 p.m., on West Road just east of the intersection with North 500 W, southwest of Jerome City.

A 2006 Pontiac G6, driven by a 29-year-old male from Jerome, was traveling westbound on West Road. A 2018 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by a 72-year-old male from Jerome with a 20-year-old male passenger from Griffith, Indiana, and a 70-year-old male passenger from Jerome, was traveling eastbound on West Road. The Pontiac failed to maintain its lane, crossing over the center line and colliding head on with the Chevrolet.

The driver of the Pontiac was wearing his seatbelt and was transported by air ambulance to a local hospital. The driver of the Chevrolet was not wearing his seatbelt and succumbed to his injuries on scene. Both passengers of the Chevrolet were not wearing their seatbelts and were transported by ground ambulance to local hospitals.

The roadway was blocked for approximately three hours and fourteen minutes to allow emergency responders to assist those involved.

Idaho State Police was assisted by Jerome Police Department, Jerome Sheriff’s Office, Jerome Rural Fire Department, Jerome Highway District, Air St. Luke’s, and Magic Valley Paramedics.

This incident remains under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
