MINIDOKA – A central Idaho man is dead following a two-vehicle crash near Jerome Saturday.

It happened just before 3 p.m. at North 400 East and East 900 North in Minidoka County, according to a news release from Idaho State Police.

The 74-year-old from Paul, whose name was not specified, was headed east on East 900 North in a 2014 Dodge Ram pickup. He failed to yield to a stop sign at North 400 East, drove through the intersection and was hit by a 51-year-old man in a 2011 Dodge Caliber.

The driver of the Caliber, whose identity was also not mentioned, is from Rupert.

“The Ram came to rest on its side in a nearby drainage ditch and the Dodge came to rest on the shoulder,” ISP report.

The man from Paul was not wearing a seatbelt. He was airlifted to a nearby hospital and later died. The other driver was wearing a seatbelt. An ambulance took him to the hospital. His condition and the extent of his injuries is unclear.

Details about the impact to traffic and how long first responders were on the scene are not available.

The crash remains under investigation.
