4A softball roundup: Teton, Preston, Marsh Valley all eliminated

NAMPA — The Teton Timberwolves accounted for District 5-6’s only 4A Softball State Championships victory, with all three eastern Idaho teams being eliminated Friday.

Teton, the tournament’s fifth seed, opened with a gritty 8-7 extra-inning victory over four-seed Gooding, Thursday. But they couldn’t continue that offensive productions Friday, scoring three runs across two games.

The eighth-seeded Marsh Valley Eagles gave Gooding a battle Friday morning, but were eventually knocked out by the Senators, 5-4.

Preston, the 4A bracket’s seven-seed, fell 23-1 to Cole Valley Christian Thursday, and followed that up with a 10-2 loss to No. 6 Timberlake.

The Timberwolves got two hits, three RBIs and two runs scored from their leadoff hitter, Gracie Kincaid, in Thursday’s win. The senior followed up that performance with three more hits and one more run scored between the two games, Friday.

Preston was led by freshman Ally Smith, who finished the tournament with 2-for-4 hitting line with one RBI.

The Eagles were paced offensively by Lydia Howell, who went 3-for-7 with a run scored between the two games.

The bracket’s two undefeated squads, Cole Valley and Kimberly, will battle in Friday evening’s semis for the first spot in Saturday’s championship round. Timberlake and Weiser will face off for the right to challenge the loser for the other championship spot.
