IONA — If you are looking for a bargain, unique items, or even a chance to connect with locals, then an upcoming garage sale might be for you.

The city of Iona will hold its annual “Community Yard Sale” on Saturday, June 7 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“It’s a way for the community to be able to clean up unwanted goods and be able to get rid of things and kind of get to know their neighbors in the process as well,” said city event coordinator Diana Estrada.

It’s also a chance for residents to make a few extra dollars.

Residents throughout the city sign up to have their addresses listed to participate in the yard sale through this link. Then, by June 1, the list of participating addresses is available online.

“Last year we had a little over 20 families participate,” Estrada said.

Each year, it keeps growing. While it is only the city that is doing the yard sale with participating residents, people living outside of Iona city limits are welcome to come take a look and buy items.

The yard sale is also part of the “Annual Community Clean” event, which happens May 26 through June 9. The city places dumpsters for Iona residents to discard household items, debris and wood.

“Residents have an opportunity to clean up needed debris from their yard or extra debris building up in the garage. We provide ways for our local residents to be able to get rid of those items and then while they’re at it, they’re going to collect some of the things that may be of value that they can sell,” Estrada said.
