McCAMMON – A boil order is in effect for the city of McCammon.

The boil order went into effect Tuesday at 7 a.m., according to a news release from the city.

Officials say in a Facebook post Tuesday afternoon the well pump has gone down. Crews are reportedly working to get it up and running again.

The boil order, which could last up to 36 hours, comes in conjunction with a water system improvement project. Officials say the main line must be shut down to avoid contamination.

“A drop in/loss of water pressure creates conditions that could allow contamination to enter the distribution system through backflow, by backpressure or back-siphonage. As a result, there is an increased chance that the drinking water may contain disease-causing organisms,” the city’s boil order says.

Water in the townsite of McCammon is shut off for the next 10-12 hours. Those within city limits will have water, but the pressure will be extremely low.

Once water is restored, the city says a boil order is mandatory until Wednesday at 5 p.m.

“Homes and land within the map below will not have water! Boil order may extend if sample results are not satisfactory,” the news release says. “Only one well will be supplying the city! Do not use water unless absolutely needed.”

Officials say overuse could collapse lines or contaminate water. They’re urging the public to avoid watering their lawn or pastures during this time.

Residents are encouraged to store water for personal use and turn off all appliances that use water.
