GOODING — A two-vehicle crash on Interstate 84 Wednesday claimed the life of a Washington woman and left another seriously injured.
The collision occurred around 2:15 p.m. in Gooding County when a 2017 Jeep Cherokee and a 2025 Freightliner Cascadia were both traveling westbound and encountered slowing traffic, according to an Idaho State Police news release.
Police say the Jeep, driven by a 39-year-old woman from Issaquah, Washington, attempted to pass the Freightliner and struck the trailer it was hauling. The impact fatally injured a 35-year-old passenger from Mill Creek, Washington, who was in the Jeep. That person was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Jeep’s driver was flown by air ambulance to the hospital. The 61-year-old driver of the Freightliner, from Eastland, Texas, was not injured.
All occupants involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts, officials said.
Emergency crews closed the left westbound lane for about three hours while they responded and cleared the scene.
