18-year-old on dirt bike dies after crashing into sheriff’s vehicle near Rupert

The following is a news release from Idaho State Police.
RUPERT – Idaho State Police is investigating a two-vehicle fatality collision at 09:00 p.m. on Tuesday, on 300 South and 20 East, south of Rupert
An 18-year-old male from Rupert was driving southbound on an irrigation canal access road on a Kawasaki KX450 dirt bike. The Kawasaki collided with a parked Minidoka County Sheriff’s patrol vehicle with a Minidoka County Sheriff deputy who was outside of the patrol vehicle.
The driver of the Kawasaki sustained critical injuries and succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash.
The driver of the Kawasaki was wearing a helmet.
The Minidoka County Sheriff Deputy was transported via ground ambulance to a local hospital.
The westbound and eastbound lanes on 300 South were blocked for approximately three hours.
Idaho State Police was assisted by the Minidoka County Sheriff’s Office, Rupert Police Department, Heyburn Fire Department, Eastern Fire Department, Heyburn Quick Response Unit, Eastern Quick Response Unit, Life Flight, and Emergency Response 1.
This crash remains under investigation by Idaho State Police.
