Man dies after crashing into group of trees in northern Idaho

RATHDRUM — Idaho State Police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred early Saturday morning on State Highway 53.
The crash happened around 3 a.m. near milepost 5 in the westbound lanes. According to investigators, a blue 1997 Ford Explorer was traveling west when it veered off the right shoulder and collided with a group of trees.
The sole occupant, an adult male, was ejected from the vehicle. Emergency responders performed CPR, but the man died at the scene from his injuries. No one else was in the vehicle.
Next of kin have been notified. The highway was partially blocked for about two and a half hours while ISP conducted its on-scene investigation.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
