CAPE CORAL, Fla. (WBBH via CNN Newsource) — For a Florida man, the Bat-Signal was an alert on his wife’s phone.

And he jumped out of bed — in his Batman pajamas — and answered the call.

“I was sleeping, and my wife was coming out of the bathroom, and she noticed an alert on the phone,” said Kyle Myvett.

At 2 a.m. Wednesday, Myvett jumped out of bed in his Batman pajamas, got in his truck and drove around his southeast Cape Coral neighborhood.

He said he found a possible burglar in his neighbor’s garage.

That’s when he swooped in.

“I got a hold of their shirt and their right wrist, and I told him, I said, ‘Listen, don’t try to get away,'” Myvett said.

Myvett says the neighborhood here in southeast Cape Coral is usually pretty calm, so he left his vehicle unlocked. That’s how the suspect was able to steal more than $800 worth of personal items from him and his neighbor.

Police showed up quickly and arrested Justin Schimpl.

They say he’d taken two pairs of Ray-Ban sunglasses, a wrist wallet and more than $500 worth of gift cards.

“This is a crime of opportunity,” said Lisa Greenberg of Cape Coral Police. “People are leaving their doors unlocked so people can get inside and steal their items.”

Although Myvett is a contractor by day, hero by night, he admitted, “I don’t have a Superman pajama because he’s kind of, you know, if you’re impervious and invincible, you’re not really brave.”
