WENDELL — Idaho State Police are investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of a Wendell man Tuesday afternoon.

The crash happened around 4:40 p.m. near 3084 S. 1700 East, just south of Wendell.

According to investigators, a 22-year-old man was driving a 2000 Honda Accord northbound at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle. The car went off the road and struck a power pole.

Troopers say the driver was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene. His name has not yet been released.

The collision caused significant damage to the utility pole, blocking all lanes on South 1700 East for about eight hours while crews made repairs. The road has since reopened.

The crash remains under investigation by Idaho State Police.
