Drink 32 ounces of eggnog and run at the ‘Nogathon’ this weekend

AMMON — Can you drink 32 ounces of eggnog and run a mile?
An event is back by popular demand for the third consecutive year. The “Nogathon,” put on by the city of Ammon, is challenging participants to a run to kick off the holidays this upcoming weekend.
It’s on Saturday, Nov. 8, at McCowin Park at 2 p.m. Check-in will start at 1 p.m. There will be four laps to complete.
“It’s a quarter-mile course around the west field of McCowin Park. Before each lap, you drink an 8-ounce cup of Reed’s Dairy eggnog, run the lap or walk the lap, and then before each lap, you drink another cup,” said Randal Miller, Ammon recreation director.
It’s possible to get sick during the race due to the excessive consumption of eggnog. There will be trash cans located around the course, in case you need them.
It’s not a competitive race but rather a fun one. Participants are encouraged to dress up in costumes.
“A lot of people do that, not everybody. It’s certainly not required, but it just adds a fun, silly element to the whole aspect of the fun run and the atmosphere out there,” Miller said. “It’s just something a little different.”
Last year, there were 250 runners in the Nogathon, and Miller expects a similar number this year.
Although early pre-registration has ended due to the city ordering all the t-shirts and swag bags, Miller said some extras were ordered.
People who want to participate can still pre-register online for $15; however, it’s not guaranteed that shirts or swag bags will be available. Click here if you are interested. Walk-ups are also accepted.
Miller said he is grateful to Reed’s Dairy for donating the eggnog for the Nogathon. He invites people who have never seen it to come out.
“Check it out, even if you don’t want to participate this year, just come out and see everybody. It’s a good time!” Miller said.
