MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS, Wyoming – The opening of the Wyoming stretch of the Beartooth Highway, from the WY-296 junction to the Montana state line, has been delayed due to a winter storm.

The highway was originally scheduled to open on Friday, but the timing has been pushed to Saturday.

“Yellowstone road crews are clearing heavy drifts of snow across the road. Crews, in coordination with Montana teams, will continue to monitor weather, re-evaluate conditions on Friday, and open the road as soon as it is practical and safe for travel,” Yellowstone Park said in a news release.

Once open, temporary travel restrictions or closures can occur pending weather or other conditions. Drivers are urged to prepare for winter driving conditions and have flexible travel plans.

Road status updates can be found on the Montana and Wyoming Departments of Transportation websites.
