Turnt Up throwback: 2000s hitmakers set to shake east Idaho this summer

FORT HALL — The Shoshone-Bannock Casino Hotel is bringing the Turnt Up Tour to Fort Hall on Thursday, July 16, with a lineup built for a loud summer night: Twista, Petey Pablo, Paul Wall, and the Ying Yang Twins.

It is the kind of bill that feels pulled straight out of the 2000s in the best way. Four acts. A stack of hits. A room full of people who already know the words.

Twista, the Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum rapper from Chicago, made his name with speed, precision, and records like “Slow Jamz,” “Overnight Celebrity,” “Girl Tonite,” and “Wetter.” First known as Tung Twista, he became famous for his rapid-fire delivery and went on to build one of the most recognizable catalogs in hip-hop.

Petey Pablo, the North Carolina rapper behind “Raise Up” and “Freek-A-Leek,” brings a different kind of energy — raw, loud, and impossible to miss. His records have lived for years on radio, in clubs, and in arenas, and his work in film and television has only widened his reach.

Paul Wall helped define an era of Texas rap, from the mixtape circuit to the mainstream. His album The People’s Champ debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and his Grammy-nominated appearance on “Grillz” helped lock in his place as one of Southern hip-hop’s most recognizable voices.

Then there’s the Ying Yang Twins — D-Roc and Kaine — whose run of party records helped shape the sound of the clubs for a generation. “Salt Shaker,” “Wait (The Whisper Song),” “What’s Happnin!,” and “Get Low” still hit the second they come on. That has not changed.
