HEYBURN — A fiery crash involving a semi-truck and tanker trailer disrupted traffic along Interstate 84 early Friday morning, according to Idaho State Police.

The incident occurred around 1:50 a.m.near milepost 217 on eastbound I-84. Authorities say a 2025 International semi-truck hauling an empty 2008 Brenner tanker trailer was traveling eastbound when it veered off the right shoulder, striking a guardrail and part of a concrete wall.

The truck then crossed both lanes of the interstate and collided with the north side of the overpass wall at North 950 East. The impact sparked a fire, leaving the semi and trailer partially blocking the left lane.

Both occupants of the truck, two 37-year-old men from El Paso, Texas, were able to escape safely. The driver exited the cab first, followed by the passenger, who had been in the sleeper compartment at the time of the crash. Officials confirmed the driver was wearing a seatbelt, and no injuries were reported.

Fire crews from multiple agencies responded quickly and extinguished the blaze without further incident.

As a precaution, both eastbound and westbound lanes of I-84 were initially shut down while responders assessed the situation. After confirming the tanker was empty and posed no additional threat, westbound lanes were reopened, along with the right lane of eastbound traffic. The left lane remains closed as crews work to remove the damaged vehicle.

Idaho State Police were assisted at the scene by several local agencies, including fire departments from Declo, East End, and North Cassia, as well as Cassia County emergency responders and transportation officials.
