IDAHO FALLS – On Monday, Elks Lodge #1087 is hosting the 17th annual Tribute to Fallen Soldiers Motorcycle Ride.
The cross-country event partners with Elks Lodges nationwide every year to escort the Fallen Soldiers Memorial Flame to pay tribute to America’s fallen heroes. The mission of the Elks Lodge, according to a news release, is “extremely supportive of America’s veterans, military, and fallen service members.”
The motorcycle procession begins in Eugene, Oregon and ends in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C. In the nation’s capitol, the flame is escorted inside the cemetery and formally extinguished in recognition of every service member honored along the journey.
They make scheduled visits to the homes of fallen service members along the way.
“At these Fallen Soldier home visits, they present surviving family members with their Memorial Plaque of Distinguished Service to graciously recognize the service members’ sacrifice and to remind each family that their fallen hero hasn’t
been forgotten,” the news release says.
The procession will arrive in Idaho Falls on Monday. The group will travel from Caldwell to Idaho Falls, spend the night and then depart Idaho Falls Elks Lodge on Tuesday at 9 a.m.
The public is invited to see the procession leave on Tuesday morning. The Elks Lodge is at 640 East Elva Street in Idaho Falls.
