Intermountain Health to acquire Idaho Falls Community Hospital, expand ownership of Mountain View Hospital

IDAHO FALLS — Intermountain Health, a Utah-based healthcare system, plans to acquire Idaho Falls Community Hospital and part of Mountain View Hospital.
The announcement was made Friday morning, with Intermountain Health saying it has reached an agreement with Nashville-based Surgery Partners to acquire the company’s ownership interest in Mountain View Hospital while becoming the sole owner of Idaho Falls Community Hospital.
“Intermountain Health is already an investor in both hospitals and has deep roots in our region. They believe in our vision and our teams, and they want to empower us to continue delivering the personalized care our organizations are known for,” Mountain View Hospital and Idaho Falls Community Hospital CEO James Adamson said in a statement.
Idaho Falls Community Hospital opened in 2019 in a collaborative effort with Mountain View Hospital. Intermountain Health, Surgery Partners, and local physicians have been collaborative owners of both hospitals and multiple clinics since 2023. Under the new agreement, operations will remain separate and continue to be managed by the existing management team, according to a news release.
Providers and employees will remain in their current positions, the release says, “providing the same high-quality care that patients are used to at these facilities.”
“We believe this growing partnership will bring positive benefits to our patients and our teams, and there will be few noticeable changes on the ground,” Adamson said. “The intent is for both hospitals to continue to be locally managed, with leadership, jobs, and compensation remaining unchanged as part of this deal.”
Intermountain Health is a nonprofit healthcare system operating over 30 hospitals and more than 400 clinics across the Intermountain West region in Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Colorado, Montana, and Wyoming.
The deal is still pending final approvals from Mountain View Hospital’s physician members and governing board, as well as the completion of required agreements between Surgery Partners and Intermountain Health. Until those approvals are received, the transaction is not guaranteed to move forward.
