Man accused of hitting woman with car in grocery store parking lot and driving away

AMMON — A man was arrested Wednesday evening after deputies say he hit a woman with his vehicle in a grocery store parking lot and drove away.
Ashtyne Lane Whiting, 29, was booked into the Bonneville County Jail on a felony charge of leaving the scene of an injury crash.
Bonneville County Sheriff’s deputies responded to Albertson’s on 25th East around 6:20 p.m. after receiving calls from people who said they saw a vehicle hit a woman in the parking lot. The driver then left “at a high rate of speed,” according to the sheriff’s office.
Idaho Falls Ambulance arrived at the scene and found a 58-year-old woman with injuries who was taken to the hospital.
One of the witnesses followed the driver of the car, who deputies later learned was Whiting, on 17th Street to a home on South Ammon Road and reported them going over 60 mph.
“Deputies contacted Whiting at the residence, who admitted to driving through the parking lot but claimed he did not know anyone was struck. Whiting provided dash camera video from his vehicle to deputies, which showed the victim being struck by the front of the car and falling onto the hood and windshield area,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
Whiting was arrested and taken to jail.
The condition of the woman has not been released.
