More than 300 people show up to break hammock world records in Swan Valley

SWAN VALLEY — East Idaho is now home to two more world records that were broken last weekend.
The new world records were set on July 18, 2026, at The Park at Swan Valley, 1908 Chapel Road. The camp is owned and operated by social media influencers Bryce and Nellie Jurgy. They recently invited east Idahoans to be part of history and try to help break the world record for most people lying in hammocks at the same time.
“The previous record was 269 of most people lying in hammocks, and then there’s another record for world’s largest hammock hangout where it was five minutes of people lying in hammocks, and that number was 125 (people),” Bryce stated. “The 269 doesn’t clarify how long, so we just knew let’s beat 269 and be lying in hammocks for more than five minutes.”
Bryce said there were 350 people in hammocks, and everyone lay in the hammocks for about seven minutes.
“As everyone was lying in hammocks, I walked through wearing a camera and also filming on my phone and had an app counter and was counting per person as we went through,” he mentioned.
Bryce said they had music playing while people were in the hammocks. Once he hopped into his hammock, they did a big countdown and everyone started cheering once the records were broken.
“It was so surreal seeing hundreds of hammock stands there,” Bryce said. “Then everyone getting in, and while it was hot and sunny, seeing people hyped, smiling and happy. … It was really giddy and exciting.”
Throughout this process, Bryce has learned there are different outlets that “put their stamp” on the world records. Some of those third-party businesses include Record Setter and Guinness World Records.
“Because they both have different processes to approve it, sometimes maybe someone comes on site, but if you document it well enough, then there’s that process to where they then see that and can verify it,” he explained. “We decided, since there’s no room for error in our documentation, and that, because they are third-party organizations, that we can’t control their timing, we were like, ‘Let’s put our resources on making this an amazing experience for everyone and document super well.'”
Bryce said they took drone footage, have different camera angles from the event and participants who were there recorded parts of it as well. World record certificates will be sent out to participants who would like them in the coming weeks.
He said that when him and his wife bought the campground years ago, they projected what they thought could happen there. One of their ideas was that one of their favorite bands, The National Parks, would perform at their campground. Two years ago, that dream came true.
“This (world record event) was another one of those moments where years ago it was like, ‘Can you imagine, we’re going to break the world record for largest hammock hangout?'” he said.
There aren’t a lot of mature trees on their property yet, so the Jurgys are grateful for the help from Grand Trunk, a hammock company, for helping make the event possible. The company donated hammock stands and custom hammocks for participants to use, and if they wanted, they could buy the stands and hammocks after the event was over.
“Nellie and I were just laughing (during the hangout) like, ‘What? This is actually happening.’ Something that we said: ‘Could you imagine if we did this?’ It was actually happening. … You get these wild ideas, and it’s better to think, ‘What if?’ instead of ‘That’ll never happen.'”
Bryce said above all, the neatest part about breaking the records was the “community feel” and having a group of people together who were like-minded and enjoying the outdoors.
After the hammock hangout, the Jurgys threw a carnival for participants. There was also an evening concert.
“It was really commemorable,” Bryce recalled. “It’s a fun core memory to have.”
