85-year-old man dies after falling into septic tank

MILLVILLE, Utah (ABC4) — An 85-year-old man has been confirmed dead after falling into a septic tank in Millville.

According to Cache County Sheriff’s Office, officers responded to the incident near 200 E 200 South in Millville on Tuesday.

An 85-year-old man had reportedly been walking near a septic tank when he fell through the temporary covering, and down approximately 20 feet into the tank. Witnesses told responders that the tank had recently been pumped out and required a temporary covering.

Crews arrived on scene to find the man “partially responsive,” meaning that he would indicate responsiveness by moving parts of his body.

Fire officials determined that the enclosed nature of the rescue and the lack of oxygen required the deployment of a heavy rescue team. Reportedly, by the time heavy rescue was able to get down to the victim, he was unresponsive and was confirmed deceased on scene.

The identity of the victim has not been released at this time.
