Coroner identifies two men who died in Snake River boating accident

IDAHO FALLS — The Bonneville County Coroner’s Office has released the names of two men who died on the Snake River near Palisades Dam on Friday.

The tragedy occurred at about noon, when first responders were called to a report of a capsized boat, according to a news release from the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office.

Three adults were aboard the vessel when it overturned, according to the release.

Two men — Robert Martineau, 73, of Idaho Falls, and Brandon Rainey, 39, of Idaho Falls — were taken by air ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls. Despite lifesaving efforts by emergency responders and hospital staff, both men died as a result of their injuries, according to Coroner Shante Sanchez.

The third adult, a woman who has not been named, was evaluated at the scene and did not require hospitalization.

Deputies said life jackets were on board, but none of the individuals were wearing them.

The Bonneville County Coroner’s Office extends its sincere condolences to the families, friends, and all those affected by this tragic loss.
