IDAHO FALLS — A new K-9 charter school has opened in Idaho Falls.
Gem Prep’s eighth campus, at 555 Aspen Meadow Drive, offers K-9 college preparatory education programs for students in the Idaho Falls community. With a Back to School Night following its grand opening ceremony on Aug. 12, families were given a tour of the two-story, 45,000 square-foot campus.
The school will provide elementary and secondary education, with several electives and extracurriculars available each quarter for high school credit. Courses will be offered online or in person, with greater emphasis on independence for grades 6-12. Upon entering 11th grade, students will take college-level coursework to earn an associate degree alongside their high school diploma.
The charter school focuses on helping students prepare for college and enter the workforce. With 57% of Gem Prep school graduates earning an associate degree with their diploma and students collectively earning more than 4,000 college credits while still in high school, Gem Prep makes it a priority to ensure its students succeed in their next academic endeavor.
“This is an exciting moment for Gem Prep and for the Idaho Falls community,” said Principal Gerald Love at the ribbon cutting. “We have been looking forward to opening our doors and welcoming our first students. This ribbon cutting represents the beginning of something special, and we are grateful to the families, staff and community members who have helped make this school possible.”
