WENDELL — A 25-year-old Utah man was killed Thursday afternoon after the van he was driving crashed into the back of a semi-truck on Interstate 84 in Gooding County.

Idaho State Police say the crash happened around 4:45 p.m. on westbound I-84 near milepost 150.8, west of Wendell.

The man, who was from Salt Lake City, was driving a 2001 Dodge van west when he rear-ended a 2018 Utility trailer being pulled by a 2020 Freightliner semi. The 64-year-old semi driver, from Mount Judea, Arkansas, was not injured.

The driver of the van died from his injuries at the scene.

The right lane of I-84 was blocked for approximately two hours while emergency crews responded and cleared the scene.

The Gooding County Sheriff’s Office and Wendell Fire Department assisted ISP. The crash remains under investigation.
