Wrong-way crash near Rupert sends 2 drivers to hospital

RUPERT — A wrong-way driver collided head-on with another vehicle near Rupert Wednesday night, sending both drivers to the hospital and closing part of State Highway 24 for about three hours.
The crash happened around 9:45 p.m. at milepost 3.1, just west of Rupert, according to Idaho State Police.
Investigators say a 47-year-old Rupert man was driving a 2014 Subaru Legacy north in the southbound lanes of Highway 24 when he collided head-on with a 2017 Hyundai Elantra driven by a 40-year-old Burley man who was traveling south.
The Hyundai driver suffered serious injuries and was flown by air ambulance to a local hospital. The Subaru driver was taken by ground ambulance to a hospital. Both men were wearing seat belts, according to ISP.
The crash blocked both southbound lanes for approximately three hours.
Idaho State Police was assisted by the Minidoka County Sheriff’s Office, Rupert Police Department, East End Fire, LifeFlight, Heyburn Police Department and Idaho Transportation Department.
The crash remains under investigation.
