1 dead from self-inflicted gunshot wound in confrontation with law enforcement in Rigby

RIGBY — Law enforcement responded to an armed man in the Off Ramp Bar and Grill on Saturday afternoon.
According to a news release from Rigby Police, a 45-year-old man was waving his handgun in the bar and causing a disturbance. Rigby Police officers and Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies responded around 1:45 p.m.
“While officers were giving him commands to drop the firearm, he turned the firearm to himself,” according to the news release.
Officers administered first aid until EMS arrived.
The man was later pronounced dead at the scene.
South State Street was closed for about four hours. The Rigby south exit of U.S. Highway 20 was also closed.
Idaho State Police, Central Fire and Ambulance, and Idaho Falls Ambulance also responded to the incident.
“We offer condolences to the family,” the police department said.
