1 million Salt Lake Temple tour spots reserved in just 24 hours

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — One million spaces to tour the renovated Salt Lake Temple were reserved in the first 24 hours after free tickets became available, according to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The enormous response came after the church announced “Rejoice in Christ” as the theme of the 2027 Salt Lake Temple Celebration and opened the first batch of reservations for the temple’s public open house.
All spaces in that initial release were claimed in less than a day by people from around the world.
Church officials say they anticipated significant worldwide demand and planned to release reservations in batches rather than making all available spaces accessible at once. Additional reservations will be released in the coming weeks and months.
Details about future ticket releases will be announced through TempleSquare.org, the Temple Square app, the Temple Square email list and official church social media channels.
During the announcement of the celebration, President Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles spoke about the worldwide interest in the temple and the church.
“The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a global church with a universal message of Jesus Christ in which we rejoice,” Uchtdorf said. “We’re so grateful that we’re here in a community where we’re welcome. We invite you to come and see and love Jesus Christ and the people who come here.”
Those who were unable to secure a reservation in the first round are encouraged to watch for future releases.
The Salt Lake Temple Celebration will run from April 5 through Oct. 1, 2027, and will include public tours of the temple, exhibits, performances, service opportunities and other experiences centered on Jesus Christ.
Many of the other activities planned throughout Temple Square will not require reservations.
