2 taken to hospital, moose killed in multi-vehicle crash near Pocatello

Idaho State Police confirms that three vehicles struck a moose on Wednesday night and at least two people were taken to the hospital.
Lt. Todd Orr said the moose walked onto Interstate 86 at 10:30 p.m. Three vehicles struck the moose, which died in the accident.
“Usually somebody will hit the moose, or something else, in the roadway, and then the moose ends up in the roadway, deceased. Then other cars coming through, you’re not going to see it because there’s no motion. Then we (get) a couple cars that’ll hit it and that’s not uncommon, unfortunately,” Orr told EastIdahoNews.com.
Orr said the multi-vehicle collision could have had a worse outcome.
“Luckily, with this one, we only had a couple of people transported. Far and wide, it could have been a lot worse,” Orr said.
The three vehicles that collided with the moose were a 2016 Volkswagen Jetta, a 2003 Toyota Camry and a 2026 Land Rover. ISP kept the left lane of traffic closed during the clean up after the accident, Orr said. Authorities were on scene until shortly after 1 a.m.

POWER COUNTY — Multiple vehicles struck a moose Wednesday night on the interstate west of Pocatello.
According to a witness, the multi-vehicle crash partially blocked eastbound Interstate 86 around 10:30 p.m. and caused significant damage.
At least three vehicles hit the moose, according to a witness. One vehicle rolled during the crash and multiple people were reportedly taken to the hospital. Their conditions have not been released as of Thursday morning.
The interstate was partially blocked for over an hour while emergency crews worked to assist the people involved in the accident and clear the roadway.
Idaho State Police, the Power County Sheriff’s Office and EMS, and Fort Hall EMS all responded to the crash.
