Idaho drivers feeling more pain with 13-cent gas price jump

The following is a news release from the American Automobile Association in Idaho.

BOISE – Plenty of people think that the number 13 is unlucky, and this week, most Idaho drivers would agree.

According to AAA, Monday’s average price for a gallon of regular in the Gem State is $4.99, which is 13 cents more than a week ago, 43 cents more than a month ago, and $1.50 more per gallon than a year ago.

The national average currently sits at $4.47 per gallon, which is about the same as a week ago, but 39 cents more than a month ago and $1.34 more per gallon than a year ago. Idaho has moved back up to 7th in the nation for the most expensive fuel, with California leading the way at $6.36 per gallon while the cheapest fuel is in Indiana at $3.88.

“Things are still rough out there, both in the Russia-Ukraine war and across the Middle East. Every twist and turn in global conflict is like shaking a soda bottle – the market experiences heavy pressure,” says AAA Idaho public affairs director Matthew Conde. “Family budgets are increasingly going into survival mode.”

The West Texas Intermediate benchmark for crude oil is currently trading near $93 per barrel – about $10 more than a month ago and $30 more than a year ago.

“When an expensive product kicks off the supply chain, there are severe consequences for the end user,” Conde said. “Many of us are being forced to re-evaluate our financial strategy.”
