BLACKFOOT — It’s that time of year again: Feedin’ Frenzy at the Eastern Idaho State Fair, and it was my pleasure to stop by Twisted Tater to try out some of their Texas-style French toast.

This dish, served with a side of bacon, is new to the booth this year.

“We’ve been doing it for a long time. We usually just make it for our employees, but it’s always been a fan favorite. Finally, someone talked us into making it and selling it,” said Chase McBurney, owner of Twisted Tater.

What really makes the dish, McBurney said, is the pappy’s buttermilk syrup.

“We make it fresh every morning. The base is buttermilk, butter and just a little bit of sugar,” McBurney said.

Twisted Tater has been doing the fair since 2010.

“But we’ve been doing the fair with other booths for as long as I’ve been alive,” McBurney said.

People who want to visit Twisted Tater can do so at the Eastern Idaho State Fair.

“We’re the booth with the big long potatoes on a stick,” McBurney said.

If you’re making the Feedin’ Frenzy rounds at this year’s Eastern Idaho State Fair, don’t miss a stop at Twisted Tater. The 2026 Eastern Idaho State Fair runs from Sept. 4 to Sept. 12. Find out more at its website.
