BOISE (Idaho Statesman) — A Boise State University graduate is among the victims killed in Thursday’s shooting at a Bend, Oregon, elementary school.

Megan Lambert, 25, graduated from Boise State in May 2023, according to a family statement shared by officials at a press conference Friday in Bend. She was a teacher at the school.

Three children were also killed in the shooting, the city announced. The 16-year-old shooter was shot and killed by a passerby, according to The New York Times.

Lambert was in her first teaching job, though she’d previously worked as a substitute educator, according to the statement read at the city press conference.

“Her call was to be an educator,” her family’s statement said. “And teach in the school district she loved.”

Lambert’s family said she was a native of Central Oregon who loved playing sports and coached volleyball. They said she was “compassionate and had a huge heart.”

“To tell you about who Megan was would take 25 years,” the statement said. “She was an incredible sister, daughter, niece and granddaughter. Her friends became her family.”
