Idaho DMV switching to email notifications in $400K cost-saving move

BOISE — Check your inbox! The Idaho DMV is preparing to send more official notices by email in a move officials say could save taxpayers at least $400,000.
The new electronic notification system will send reminders and updates directly to customers who have an email address linked to their DMV online account.
Officials say the change is part of a modernization effort designed to cut costs, but they also want Idahoans to know the emails are legitimate and not mistake them for spam.
“Many Idahoans will receive an e-notification from the DMV for the first time,” said DMV Administrator CJ Kendrick. “We want customers to feel confident the message is legitimate and understand why they’re receiving it.”
The emails will come from an Idaho Transportation Department-managed address and include instructions and links to the official DMV website at DMVOnline.itd.idaho.gov.
Customers who would rather continue receiving notifications through traditional mail must log into their DMV online account and opt out of electronic notifications.
To avoid falling for scams, the DMV advises customers to make sure links in any message direct them to official Idaho Transportation Department websites.
