Jury deliberating in Faith Hedgepeth murder trial following fiery, passionate closing arguments
Published at | Updated atThe jury is out and deliberating the fate of Miguel Salguero-Olivares. He’s the man accused in the brutal rape and murder of UNC student Faith Hedgepeth.
Before deliberations began, the prosecution and defense gave passionate closing arguments.
Prosecutors say DNA and fingerprints point straight to Salguero-Olivares and argue a rejected sexual advance may have triggered the killing.
But the defense has a very different explanation for why his DNA was found inside Faith, suggesting a consensual sexual encounter days earlier and accusing investigators of tunnel vision.
Both sides delivered emotional, sharply conflicting closing arguments. Now, it all comes down to one question: Is the evidence enough to convict?
