LIVE UPDATES: Day 5 of trial for Miguel Salguero-Olivares, accused killer of Faith Hedgepeth
Published at
Trial is underway for Miguel Salguero-Olivares, the man charged in the brutal murder of 19-year-old Faith Hedgepeth in 2012. Hedgepeth, a student at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, was found half-naked and beaten to death in the off-campus apartment she shared with friend Karena Rosario. Her rape and murder went unsolved for nearly a decade before investigators were able to match DNA evidence from the crime scene to Salguero-Olivares. He was arrested in September 2021 and pleaded not guilty to the crimes in November 2024. Salguero-Olivares’s trial began on Sept. 28 at the Durham County Courthouse in Durham, North Carolina.
