Trial is underway for Miguel Salguero Olivares, the man charged in the brutal murder of 19-year-old Faith Hedgepeth in 2012. Faith, a student at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, was found half-naked and beaten to death in the off-campus apartment she shared with friend Karena Rosario. Her rape and murder went unsolved for nearly a decade before investigators were able to match DNA evidence from the crime scene to Salguero Olivares. He was arrested in September 2021 and pleaded not guilty to the crimes in November 2024. Salguero Olivares’s trial began on Sept. 28 at the Durham County Courthouse in Durham, North Carolina.
