More than 122,000 cases of Gatorade recalled across US, including Idaho

BOISE (Idaho Statesman) — PepsiCo has recalled more than 122,000 cases of Gatorade sold across the United States.
The recalled Gatorade sports drinks were sold in 37 states, including Idaho, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said.
The FDA categorized the recall as a Class II alert, defined as a situation where using or being exposed to a product may cause “temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.”
Here’s what to know:
Which food product was recalled in Idaho? Why?
PepsiCo of Purchase, New York, recalled a total of 122,021 cases of Gatorade because they contain undeclared Yellow No. 6 and Yellow No. 5 dyes, according to an enforcement report from the FDA.
The recall affects 28-ounce bottles of the following flavors:
- Gatorade Lemon Lime
- Gatorade Lemon Lime Zero
- Gatorade Orange
- Gatorade Orange Zero
The FDA requires “evidence that a color additive is safe at its intended level of use before it may be added to foods.”
According to FDA regulations, dyes are given clear directions when they’re approved as food-safe.
That includes how to properly declare coloring ingredients on a food item’s label.
