BLACKFOOT — After the retirement announcement of one of its magistrate judges, the Seventh Judicial District Magistrate Commission has selected his successor.
According to a news release from the Magistrate Commission, Magistrate Judge Scott H. Hansen announced he will retire from the bench on Jan. 10, 2027, and Custer County Prosecutor N. Paul Rogers will succeed him.
Rogers has served as Custer County Prosecutor since 2025 and also runs a private practice, Rogers Law, PLLC. He also serves as civil counsel for Bingham County.
His background includes work for the U.S. Department of Energy, the Bingham County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, and the Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and Deputy Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for Bonneville County.
Rogers received his Juris Doctor from the College of Law at the University of Idaho in 2009 and, before that, earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Science from Brigham Young University-Idaho in 2005. He also earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Regis University in 2018.
Administrative District Judge Steven W. Boyce, who also serves as Magistrate Commission Chairman, praised the Magistrate Commission’s work during the search and interview process.
The Magistrate Commission interviewed eight individuals, including Rogers.
“Seeing the hard work and thoughtful consideration exercised by each member of the 7th Judicial District Magistrates Commission reaffirms my confidence in the process enacted by our legislators to select highly qualified and honorable magistrate judges,” Boyce said in the release.
Once Rogers takes the bench in January, he will serve an 18-month probationary period after which he will face a retention election in the county.
If voters choose to retain Rogers, he will serve a four-year term.
