It’s time for another edition of 7 Questions with Emmy and today I’m chatting with Kate Biberdorf, also known as “Kate the Chemist.”

Kate is a chemist, science entertainer, and professor at the University of Notre Dame. Known for demonstrations using fire, ice, and explosions, she makes science exciting for all ages.

Dr. Biberdorf is also the bestselling author of several science books and has appeared on numerous programs. She will be presenting at the Colonial Theater in Idaho Falls on Friday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m.

Here’s what I asked her:

  • What made you fall in love with chemistry?
  • You do some pretty crazy science experiments! What’s the most surprising experiment you’ve ever done—and did anything ever go totally wrong?
  • If you could invent or discover anything using chemistry, what would you want to create?
  • You’ve made science fun for so many kids. What’s the coolest chemical reaction you’ve ever seen?
  • If you could spend one day doing science with ANY person from history—scientist, inventor, or even a fictional character—who would you choose, and what would you do together?
  • What advice would you give to a kid who thinks they’re “not a science person”?
  • What can people expect when they come to see your show?
