Breaking it down further, 57 percent of lawmakers are Protestant while 31 percent are Catholic.

This is essentially unchanged from the 113th Congress. However, there are far more Christians on Capitol Hill than the public at large with 49 percent of American adults affiliated with some Protestant faith and 22 percent in the Catholic Church.

Insofar as other religions are concerned, there are a total of 16 Mormons in the House and Senate, including Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid. Five percent of congressional members are Jewish, compared to two percent of the U.S. public.

As for lawmakers who say they are affiliated with no religion, there’s just one: Arizona Democratic Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema.

Twenty percent of all Americans say they are not affiliated with any religion.
