Uber Launches UberEATS Food-Delivery Service in Barcelona

TENGKU BAHAR/AFP/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — Uber is beginning to expand its presence in the food delivery industry, launching UberEATS in Barcelona earlier this week.
According to an Uber blog post, the “on-demand food-delivery service” launched in Barcelona on Wednesday. The platform had previously launched in Los Angeles under the name UberFRESH.
The goal of the service is to “create a changing selection of lunch and dinner meals that you can receive in under ten minutes,” the company says. “In the same time it takes you to walk up Las Ramblas, you can open up your Uber app, choose your meal and get it delivered to an address of your choice.”
UberFRESH launched in Los Angeles in August 2014 and expanded to Beverly Hills and West Hollywood in November 2014.
Funded by major venture capital funds, including Google Ventures, and valued at $40 billion, Uber has received fierce criticism in several countries where established taxi companies say it is not operating legitimately.
