Most in Large Markets Rely on Internet to Buy Cars

iStock/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — Shopping for a car used to entail either visiting a dealership or checking the local newspaper ads. But that’s so 20th century.
The consulting firm Accenture Automotive reports that about 80 percent of people who live in large markets around the world turn to digital technology first before purchasing a car.
Based on a poll of 10,000 people in the U.S., China and other countries, Christina Rabb, global managing director for Digital Consumer Services at Accenture Automotive, says the Internet has turned the traditional car-buying experience on its head.
What’s more, over 60 percent of the survey respondents say they initiate the sale online and three in four of all consumers would do the entire purchase digitally if possible.
To get an idea of how things have really changed from the old ways of buying vehicles, almost half said they’d eschew an actual test-drive for a virtual spin in their new wheels.
