On Sunday, President Obama held a bilateral meeting at Schloss Elmau with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and according to the White House, the two agreed sanctions against Russia needed to continue until the Ukraine cease-fire was fully lifted.

The cease-fire was a conversation topic the president emphasized in remarks earlier Sunday in Krün saying among other topics, leaders at the summit will talk about “standing up to Russian aggression on Ukraine.”

Another conversation topic at the summit has been the fight against ISIS. The president and British Prime Minister David Cameron held a bilateral meeting Sunday to discuss the terrorist group in the first meeting since Cameron was re-elected. Ahead of the meeting, President Obama said the conversation would offer an opportunity to discuss the progress in the fight against ISIS.

“We’ll have the opportunity to discuss the effort against ISIL,”said the president. “The situation in Iraq and Syria and assess what’s working and what’s not and how we can continue to make progress there dismantling the infrastructure that ISIL has built and in promoting political inclusion in Iraq and ultimately Syria that are going to be necessary for a long term solution.”
