Thousands Sign Petition Calling for Jon Stewart to Moderate a Presidential Debate

Brad Barket/Getty Images(WASHINGTON) — Jon Stewart recently signed off The Daily Show, but many are calling on him to sign up for a new job this election season.
A petition on Change.org has attracted over 200,000 people, calling for former Daily Show host Jon Stewart to moderate one of the presidential debates during the 2016 race for the White House.
“Jon Stewart is more than qualified to tackle the moderating job,” said a statement on the petition site. “Mr. Stewart has interviewed 15 heads of state, 22 members of the United States Cabinet, 32 members of the United States Senate, 7 members of the United States House of Representatives, and scores of other political leaders from this country and around the world while establishing himself as the most trusted person in (satirical) news.”
There’s a chance Stewart may not want the gig. In a recent interview with The Guardian, Stewart hinted he was not necessarily interested in covering another election.
“I’d covered an election four times, and it didn’t appear that there was going to be anything wildly different about this one,” he told The Guardian.
