The 39-year-old Allen was previously with the Denver Broncos as their defensive coordinator. He will be taking over for Hue Jackson, who was fired by new general manager Reggie McKenzie.

“We are going to put a team out there that is going to play with passion, that is going to play with emotion, that is going to play with discipline, that is going to play the game the right way,” Allen said.

Allen is the Raiders’ seventh head coach since 2003. During that span, the silver and black has gone 45-99, failing to qualify for the postseason each season.

Allen is inheriting a defense that finished 29th in the league, having giving up 31 touchdown passes and 6,021 total yards — both franchise records.

The Raiders last won the Super Bowl back in 1983, with a 38-9 victory over the Washington Redskins in Super Bowl 18.
