Two Kansas City Royals Players Diagnosed with Chickenpox

Modra/Sports Imagery/Getty Images(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) — The Kansas City Royals hold baseball’s best record, but after a pair of players were diagnosed with the chickenpox on Tuesday, the team is working to prevent the disease from spreading further.
The Kansas City Star reported that outfielder Alex Rios and relief pitcher Kelvin Herrera both have the virus and could miss about two weeks’ worth of games. The two were each quarantined at their homes while the team worked to ensure their players and staff are inoculated against the disease.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the disease, which is more common among children, is more dangerous when contracted by adults.
The spread of certain diseases is not uncommon in professional sports locker rooms. Last year, an outbreak of the mumps affected 18 National Hockey League players on five different teams.
