UPDATE: Police detain possibly armed man near Pocatello High School

The following is a Public Safety Advisory from the Pocatello Police Department.

UPDATE:

The school resource officer for Pocatello High School and detectives have continued working the incident from this morning behind the school.

The suspect, Michael T. Randall, 18, has been formally arrested on a warrant and charged with possessing a weapon on school property and carrying a concealed weapon while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

Randall is not a student at Pocatello High School. At his time, police say they are unaware if any further charges will be forthcoming related to the incident.

Randall surrendered himself peacefully to police early Friday morning.

No further information is available to release at this time.

ORIGINAL STORY:

POCATELLO — Authorities have issued an advisory regarding a possibly armed man near a Pocatello High School.

Pocatello Police Lt. Ian Nelson said they are unsure if there is a danger to the public, however they are taking the threat seriously and are aggressively searching for the individual.

Police reports show that at about 6:20 a.m., two Pocatello High School students observed a male subject wearing a red zippered hoodie with the hood up, a half face mask depicting a skull with blood, and blue jeans walking south on Garfield. The subject is reported to be slender and approximately 6′ tall.

The subject was reported to have been carrying a green and black baseball bat and displayed a small black handgun, but did not point it. The subject did not say anything and continued walking south on Garfield.

Pocatello High School will be on controlled access today.

Officers have been searching the area and have not located anyone in the area matching the description given.
