Martin Brodeur Staying in New Jersey
Published at(NEWARK, N.J) — Martin Brodeur will be staying in the swamps of Jersey after Brodeur and the Devils agreed on a two-year deal worth $9 million on Monday.
Brodeur entered the free agent market for the first time in his career after the team and him were unable to strike a deal. Before singing with the Devils, Brodeur spoke with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Chicago Blackhawks, according to ESPN.com.
“I’m really happy,” Brodeur told ESPN.com on Monday. “Deep down what I always wanted was to re-sign with New Jersey. I’m glad the Devils stepped up when they did. As the process went on I was certainly intrigued by what was out there. But this is really what I wanted.”
With Brodeur signed, the Devils can now shift their attention towards their captain, Zach Parise, who is also a free agent.
Along with the Devils, Parise has the Pittsburgh Penguins, Minnesota Wild, and Philadelphia Flyers on his list, according to sources.
