The following is a news release from the city of Idaho Falls.

IDAHO FALLS – Idaho Falls Zoo is the proud recipient of an EarthCam, a web camera that allows visitors to view an area of the zoo in real time online 24 hours a day, even though the zoo is closed for the season.

The zoo has chosen the African Penguin Cove to debut the new technology. Beginning today, residents and others from around the world will be able to view the indoor area to see African penguins and watch feedings, pool cleanings, observe animal care procedures, and interactions between the birds while they are inside in view of the camera.

If users access the camera and can’t see the penguins, they are in their outdoor exhibit. They have access to their outdoor exhibit as long as the temperature outside is above 20º F. Contrary to popular belief, the majority of penguin species (such as the African penguins) are not cold tolerant and must have access to a heated area in cold weather.

In addition to the African Penguins at the Idaho Falls Zoo, EarthCam shares live streaming views of many interesting animals with people around the world, including Masai Giraffe, Polar Bears, Peregrine Falcons, American Bison and Meerkats.

EarthCam is the global leader in providing webcam content, technology and services and provides live streaming video, time-lapse construction cameras and photography documentation for corporate and government clients in major cities around the world. This patent-pending technology delivers superior multi-billion pixel clarity for monitoring and archiving important projects and events across the globe.
