Newlyweds ‘making a bad situation good’ as they lose everything to fire

REXBURG — A newlywed couple whose home was destroyed last weekend says the community has rallied around them after the tragedy.
Juliann and Vincent Taylor were in Arizona for their wedding on Nov. 1. The couple was preparing to come home last week when Vincent’s son called with terrible news. The fire broke out Saturday evening (Nov. 8) inside the mobile home they rented in the Lyman area south of Rexburg. The Madison Fire Department said damages were around $100,000 and the Taylors lost everything.
“I thought it was a joke at first,” Vincent said. “So, I had to make a couple more calls to find out what was going on.”
The Taylors say since they were in Arizona, the couple had only taken summer clothes. Their coats, warm shirts and pants were consumed in the fire. Items like family photos were also a loss.
“My wife was just bawling,” Vincent said. “It was terrible. I couldn’t help crying with her.”
While experiencing the loss of everything proved tragic, the Taylors said the community has pitched in to help, making the situation better. One person has allowed the newlyweds to stay in a furnished basement while others have given them warm clothes, food and other essential items.

“I have been so humbled through all of this,” Juliann said. “The people … the community has just been unbelievable. This has taken me off guard.”
Both Vincent and Julie said they have never been in a more loving and caring community. By the time the Taylors made the more than 10-hour drive from Arizona to Idaho help had already arrived.
“There are still really good people in the world,” Juliann said. “Tragedy definitely brings people closer together.”
And it’s not just help with things lost in the fire. Julie says they had recent car troubles and within minutes of being stopped on the side of the road people were there to help.
“We’re so glad to call Idaho our home,” Juliann said. “We’re definitely making a bad situation good and decided this is a complete fresh start for the two of us.”
