POCATELLO — The National Weather Service has issued another winter weather advisory for a significant portion of eastern Idaho.
The advisory begins Tuesday at 11 p.m. and continues through Wednesday until 5 p.m. with forecasters expecting up to six inches of snow in higher elevations and winds gusting as high as 50 mph. NWS officials expect drifting and blowing snow during the advisory.
The NWS’s winter weather advisory includes the cities of Shoshone, Burley, Cary, Mud Lake, Idaho Falls, Rexburg, St. Anthony, Pocatello, Blackfoot, American Falls, Fort Hall, McCammon. Lava Hot Springs, Malad, Preston, Montpelier, Soda Springs, Wyan, Swan Valley, Victor, Ashton, Tetonia, Driggs and Island Park.
Lower elevations can expect less snow, with the forecast in the Snake River Plain and Pocatello-area getting between one and two inches.
During the advisory, officials say drivers should plan on slippery and hazardous road conditions. Officials say the blowing snow will reduce visibility and gusty winds could bring down tree branches.
The NWS has also issued a winter storm warning for the Bear River Range, Caribou Range and Big Hole Mountains. The forecast calls for six to 19 inches of snow on ridge tops and elevations above passes. The wind gusts are also expected to be as high as 50 mph.
A new flood advisory has also been issued in Fremont County’s low-lying areas along the Henrys Fork of the Snake River about half a mile upstream of St. Anthony. The advisory lasts until 4:30 p.m. Wednesday with the reports of ice jams, or ice flows blocking the stream of water in Henrys Fork.
Fremont County Emergency Management has reported the ice jam and areas that could experience flooding include, Ashton, Parker, St. Anthony, Chester, Egin and the Ashton Reservoir areas.
