David Ron Jorgensen

David Ron Jorgensen was born on March 25, 1966 in Boise, Idaho as the fourth child of Ron and Carolyn Jorgensen.

David grew up in Boise and attended Highlands Elementary, North Jr. High, and Boise High School. David enrolled at Ricks College for a year before embarking on an LDS mission in Pennsylvania. Following the completion of his mission, he attended Brigham Young University and later graduated from Boise State University. He became a CPA.

David met Lisa Cheney in 1992 and they married on August 23rd, 1996. Together they had two children, Hailey and Alexander. They later divorced in 2013. In 2015, David met Carrie Holman, and they formed a loving relationship. He was a very caring father-figure to Carrie’s daughter, Taylor.

David took great pride in his children and provided them with invaluable guidance throughout their lives. He was incredibly loyal and generous to those he cared about. He was a goofy guy with a big smile and he loved to make people laugh. Being in the wilderness was his favorite place to be, either hiking, camping, or fishing. He also loved baking and cooking elaborate meals for friends and family.

On April 20th, 2023, David went on a camping trip with two of his closest friends. They hiked out to a cave near the Bruneau River, a place that they had been regularly visiting since they were teenagers. After setting up camp, they watched the sunset from a rocky outcropping nearby. Tragically, on their way back to the cave, David slipped and fell from the cliff. He passed away instantly.

David will be deeply missed, and his memory will be cherished by those who knew him.

The family would like to thank the two friends who were with David on April 20th for doing everything that they could. They risked their own lives to find him and alerted rescuers so that he could be recovered as quickly as possible. We will be forever grateful for their actions that night. We also want to thank the emergency responders and all of the volunteers in the Idaho Mountain Search & Rescue Unit who participated in the recovery efforts that night and the following day. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

David is survived by his two children: Hailey (Sage Rogers) Jorgensen and Alexander Jorgensen; his parents: Ron and Carolyn Jorgensen; four brothers and two sisters: Mike (Tina) Jorgensen, Kenneth (Tami) Jorgensen, Lori (Sam) Atoa, Steven (Patti) Jorgensen, Chris (Lori) Jorgensen and Tiffany (Tyler) Smith.

A memorial service was held Friday, May 5th, 2023 in Boise, Idaho. Please consider donating in David’s name to the Idaho Mountain Search & Rescue Unit, the Idaho Foodbank, or the National Park Foundation.
