Lee Westwood Leads the British Open After Three Rounds
Published at(GULLANE, Scotland) — If Tiger Woods wants to win his first major championship in five years, he’ll have to go through Lee Westwood.
Westwood birdied the 17th hole and will take a two-shot lead into the final day of the British Open Championship at Muirfield. Overall, he shot a 70 to finish at 3-under 210 while playing alongside Woods.
Woods shot a 72 on Saturday and is currently tied for second with Hunter Mahan, whose 3-under-par 68 put him in the final group for the second straight major.
“It was a grind,” Woods said afterwards. “With this golf course and the way it’s changed every day, different conditions … it will be interesting to see what they do (Sunday).”
Miguel Angel Jiminez was the leader after 36 holes but faded fast Saturday, shooting a 6-over 77 to take himself out of contention.
Play will wrap up on Sunday and a 2013 champion will be crowned.
